Welcome
I am now fully retired and enjoying life! Still, people that I meet often ask me about my professional life, so here is a detailed review of what I did professionally since 1974 when I graduated from college.
How do you sum-up decades of experience producing various forms
of communications in an online portfolio? It is impossible. As
a result, this site contains only a fraction of my full portfolio.
What is on this E-Portfolio site? Much of it is from my work
for my last full time employer, Microwave Data Systems in Rochester,
New York. The MDS samples reflect work over the last 15 years
as a regular employee, and since 1998 as a freelance consultant.
There are also descriptions of my professional and personal achievements
as a Web site developer.
My full portfolio includes samples of technical writing, photographic
and line art graphics, technical training classroom packages,
and instructional videos produced for Harris-RF Communications,
General Railway Signal Company, IBM Corporation and others. Want
to see the whole package? Just give me a call to arrange an appointment.
I would be pleased to hear from you.

TECHNICAL WRITING SAMPLES

Below is a list of samples of my work for Microwave Data Systems
both as a fulltime employee until 1998, and since then as an
outside consultant. All works are presented with written permission
from Microwave Data Systems. |
- Wireless Ethernet Bridge--MDS iNET 900
Documentation set for a new wireless data networking product
which was released in March 2002. These works were samples of
several contracts completed as an independent consultant to Microwave
Data Systems, Inc. I produced all photography using a digital
camera and Adobe Photoshop.

unfamiliar with radio communications technology, but with fundamental
understanding of data communications.
- MDS iNET 900 User's
Guide (PDF 5.1 Mb)--Here is the product guide for network
managers and MIS personnel. I am sorry the file is so large,
but with 130 pages in the manual, it was impossible to provide
a smaller PDF file.

from the Installation Guide. I conceived, designed and produced
this aid. The front side is a full-page centerfold and the back

(PDF 250K) -- Brief technical manual prepared in Adobe FrameMaker
for a radio accessory product of MDS.
- Capacitor Bank Controller Design

design elements of a radio system produced by MDS for an electric
power generation and distribution utility. (Unreleased publication)

and Airport Information for MDS -- Travel information
used by MDS on their Internet site (www.MicrowaveData.com). Text listings of
lodgings with regional map with hotlinks to motel information.
- PDF
Downloading and On-Line Viewing Instructions -- This
is an on-line "help" file posted on the MDS Internet
site. It describes interacting with PDF links and resources available
on Web sites.
GRAPHIC DESIGN SAMPLES

PROFESSIONAL WEB
SITE DESIGNS
 |
|
This site offers profiles sophistical design
software for defense electronics suppliers to aid them in designing
filters and mechanical barriers to protect from electronic equipment
from high-voltage pulses. I was charged with revising existing
material to make it suitable for presentation on the Web with
a free hand in organizing the material. |

Presenting photography on the Web is easy if
your visitor has high-speed access. This site is designed to
complement both dial-up and high-speed connections. Stop by and
look at this site's beautiful photography. |

The company is a manufacturer of high-quality electronic components
for the telecommunications and electronics industry. I served
as Designer and Webmaster for Bliley Technologies Inc. in Erie,
PA. between 2001 to 2003. I surprised and honored to be invited
in 2001 by the company's management to provide these services
after seeing my work on the history
of the company online. The V.P. of Sales and Marketing, Greg
Weaver, said the history site was his "second most important
marketing tool" and he wanted me to replicate that impact
on the company's commercial site. The new marketing site was
completed and put online in March 2003. My responsibilities included
site design, product photography (tabletop/close-up), page layout
and ongoing site management.
In July 2004, the site was redesigned to the specifications
a new V.P. of Sales and Marketing. My work for BTI is available
for private viewing.
|
- Other Commercial Web Sites
I have worked on the design of several other commercial sites.
These include the first design for a previous employer, Microwave
Data Systems (MDS), and another electronics manufacturer, T&C
Power Conversion. Since my work on the MDS and T&C Power
Conversion sites, corporate initiatives have taken these sites
in directions beyond my initial work. Samples of this work can
be presented during an interview as the current sites may no
longer reflect my work.
PERSONAL INTEREST WEB SITES
The following is a listing of personal Internet Web sites
that I have created and maintain. While they are not very sophisticated,
they do provide valuable background on my professional and personal
interests, writing style, graphic development and basic Web page
design.

Electric Company History: 1930--1955
|
|
|
My father started a radio-electronics manufacturing
business in 1930 for the production of frequency control units
("crystals") which were sold to radio amateurs. This
site is an adaptation of a booklet I wrote in 1982 for the company
and the Antique Wireless Association. The family was in control
of the company until 1998. |

Family Genealogy
 |
|
Everybody likes to have something to feel proud
about in their family history. I am proud of my family's history
and have built a Web site to present
the story of my ancestors. This work has lead to other projects,
such as a CD-ROM and Web site presentation of my grandmother's
personal photo album--a real genealogical gem. When it was seen
by my fellow members of the Rochester Genealogical Society,
they invited me to tell them the story of the development
of this work. This presentation was followed up by a presentation
on using tabletop
photography to illustrate family history stories. |
- Public Speaking and Training
In 2001 and 2003, I was invited to make presentations to the
Computer Interest Group of the Rochester Genealogical Society.
Each presentation was complemented by a Web site that archived
the program's PowerPoint slide show and additional resources.
The topics were the development of the CD-ROM
version of my grandmother's photo album and tabletop
photography for genealogists.
- The Bliley Network
Over the last few years, my personal
Web development efforts have grown tremendously. I now have my
own domain name and site at www.Bliley.net. This address is the home
for all of the sites listed above and a few others. All of the
sections are related to me or my interests, and demonstrate my
capabilities beyond what is offered here in my professional portfolio.
My most recent efforts have included the publication of PDF and
HTML/JPEG versions of my grandmother's family photo album on CD (650M)
and on the Web.
In June 2001, I made a presentation to the Rochester Genealogy
Society on the development of the CD-ROM and Web site. For a
detailed description of this process, please look at the presentation
page.
